Lara Croft is so much more than character, she’s a total institution and I wasn’t at all surprised when they brought out the Tomb Raider slot, nor its sequel, the Tomb Raider: Secret of the Sword. I’ve played the video games and enjoyed the movies, so I couldn’t wait to play the Tomb Raider slot and I’ve gotta say it’s one of the good ones!
At first glance, I was a little disappointed that they hadn’t made it one of those Hitman-style video slots where the symbols could be taken straight from the video games, they’re so realistic. Then I realised that it didn’t much matter because the sexy Lara Croft was there anyway and the way they’ve done the slot really immerses you in the environment so you feel like you’re there having an adventure with her!
It’s one of Microgaming’s simple slot machines, which means enough features to keep you entertained, but not so many that the game becomes overwhelming or stressful. The Lara Croft Tomb Raider symbol is the wild and even with all the other features this is the one that netted me the most cash, so I certainly appreciated it being there.
There’s a free spins round which is as usual triggered by spinning three or more scatter symbols – Lara, holding her guns in trademark style – and the feature consists of 10 free spins. Better still, all wins are tripled when you are in this mode and the free spins feature can be re-triggered.
It’s got a great bonus game, albeit a simple one: known as the Tomb Bonus, it’s triggered by spinning three or more golden statues on the reels. You’re taken to a separate screen with twelve idols and you have to choose to reveal the cash prize. You can win up to 2,500 times your bet here so it’s safe to say that it’s the most exciting feature of the game!
I really love the fact that the Tomb Raider slot has just 15 paylines because it helps you to manage your budget a little better. Any more than that and things can get out of control. All up, I had a great time playing Tomb Raider in a totally new way and ended up £50 up after just fifteen minutes – and it’s all thanks to Lara!
